Director's note
The synergy between planning our 40th anniversary event and writing our diversity and inclusion plan was a happy coincidence. Our conversations focused on examining the accessibility of our programs, office environment, and the Open Curriculum itself.
Our action steps: Each staffer liaised with a specific center or program; we held ongoing staffer trainings, on such topics as trans-inclusivity, working with DACA & undocumented students, and advising students in the STEM concentrations; and IC coordinators hosted a Diversity & Inclusion conversation about the independent concentration. The magic of the CRC lies in our peer advisors, the CRC staffers and the DUG leaders, MAPS mentors, leavetaking information session panelists, and Theories in Action seniors who share their stories about the ups and downs inherent in the process of learning. I am so grateful to the CRC staffers and other program peer mentors for doing this important work: Giving of yourselves, and investing in the importance of building community around our collective journey to find meaning, purpose, and our place in our world. I'd especially like to thank Anna Stacy '17 for spending four years at the CRC as our Digital Archives & Media Coordinator, and Ellen Grant & Tony Alfieri '81 P'15, P'18 for making our 40th Anniversary celebration possible. And to The Island Fund, your gift continues to allow for the vibrant, creative process we need to serve students looking to find their unique path. With gratitude, Peggy Chang '93 AM'13 |

Mission
The Curricular Resource Center for Peer Advising (CRC) is a place where students help each other engage with Brown's open curriculum and effectively utilize its academic resources.
Founded in 1976 to support the fullest use of the New Curriculum, today the CRC's Director, students coordinators and volunteers coordinate information sessions, community-building events, and individual meetings with students for advising about independent studies and concentrations, applying for funding opportunities, taking time off from college, issues related to the sophomore year and more. The CRC staffers collaborate with various groups, centers and deans to provide the best possible advice about the wealth of academic resources at Brown and beyond. The CRC is part of the Office of the Dean of the College. |
